Identified particle measurements at large transverse momenta in Cu +

چکیده

Differential measurements of various particle species over an extended momentum range provide a sensitive experimental tool for investigation of energy loss mechanisms in the medium created in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC. In these proceedings, a systematic study of transverse momentum spectra for charged pions, protons and antiprotons from Cu+Cu data at √ s N N = 200GeV as a function of collision centrality will be presented. Such systematic studies provide additional insights into the interplay between fragmentation and non-fragmentation contributions to the particle production. To investigate system size effects on energy loss, a comparison of top energy results for Cu+Cu and Au+Au collision systems are made.

Characteristics of Parton Energy Loss Studied with High-pT Particle Spectra from PHENIX

In the first three years of the physics program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) a picture was established in which the suppression of hadrons at high transverse momenta (pT) in central Au+Au collisions is explained by energy loss of quark and gluon jets in a medium of high color-charge density. Measurements of single particle spectra for a smaller nucleus (Cu), for different cente...

High Momentum Particle and Jet Production in Photon-photon Collisions *

Jet and particle production have been studied in collisions of quasi-real photons collected during the LEP2 program. OPAL and DELPHI report good agreement of NLO perturbative QCD with the measured differential di-jet cross sections, which reach a mean transverse energy of the di-jet system of 25GeV. L3, on the other hand, finds drastic disagreement of the same calculation with single jet produc...

Measurement of charged particle multiplicities and densities in pp collisions at 7 TeV in the forward region Paul

Charged particle multiplicities are studied in proton-proton collisions in the forward region at a centre-of-mass energy of √ s = 7 TeV with data collected by the LHCb detector. The forward spectrometer accesses a kinematic range of 2.0 < η < 4.8 in pseudorapidity, momenta greater than 2 GeV/c and transverse momenta greater than 0.2 GeV/c. The measurements are performed using events with at lea...

ALICE pp physics programme

The physics programme of the ALICE experiment at CERN-LHC comprises besides studies of high-energy heavy-ion collisions measurements of proton-proton interactions at unprecedented energies, too. This paper focuses on the global event characterisation in terms of the multiplicity distribution of charged hadrons and mean transverse momentum. These bulk observables become accessible because the de...

Prospects for identified leading particle correlation at LHC and in ALICE

Azimuthal di-hadron correlations play important role in the characterization of the medium created in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC. Moreover, as a novel phenomenon, strong modification of the away-side correlation is observed in Au+Au with respect to p+p collisions. Below the exclusive jet reconstruction threshold at LHC, leading particle correlations will provide access to the regime where har...
